At LaRue, we understand the growing concern of our impact
on the environment today. We are taking steps to reduce waste and create
biodegradable packaging for our coffees. Here are some other ways we are
striving to reduce waste:
- The boxes we pack our
coffees in are reused as many times as possible, then sent to a recycling
facility.
- We rent point-of-use
filtered water coolers. These systems save thousands of plastic bottles from
going into landfills.
- We are currently
working with film packaging producers to develop a truly recyclable and/or
biodegradable packaging system.
One option being developed by Robbie Manufacturing
is to create a package system using plastics made from renewable sources such
as corn. We hope to test this product this year.
- Our revolutionary
Ecotainer™ line of food service packaging provides a more environmentally
friendly alternative to traditional disposables. While traditional paper cups
are lined with a petroleum-based plastic, Ecotainer™ uses a corn-based lining. Therefore,
the Ecotainer™ line of packaging is fully renewable, fully compostable, and
leaves a smaller environmental footprint. And it does so while providing all
the functionality of traditional disposable packaging.
Don't just take our word for it, the Specialty
Coffee Association of America recognized Ecotainer™ with its 2007
Sustainability Award. Your customers
won't be able to tell the difference, but the environment will!
